Every Friday, somewhere between 300 and 450 individuals are served through our food distribution.
Every year, thousands of pounds of fresh produce from the mission and other community gardens is provided for the farmworker community.
Every week, pastoral care is provided to farmworkers, including counseling, hospital visitation, and assistance in orienting migrants to a new culture.
Every month, about 350 hours of volunteer service
is provided at the mission.
ABOUT MISIÓN PENIEL
Misión Peniel began as a pastoral ministry of charity and service, providing food, clothing, fellowship and emergency supports to farmworkers in Immokalee, Florida in September 2006. At that time it was an extension of Beth-El Farmworker Ministries. When economic constraints made it difficult to continue to support this work through Beth-El Farmworker Ministries, a new covenantal partnership with the Peace River Presbytery of the PCUSA was envisioned and Peace River churches met in the fall of 2013 to determine if sufficient dedicated support was available to continue this work independent of its previous structure but somehow linked to the work and mission of what God is doing in the Peace River Presbytery and the PCUSA.
Beginning in 2013 Misión Peniel became a covenant ministry of Peace River Presbytery while continuing to be a vehicle for people of faith to respond to a call for compassionate service to complement the focus on social justice provided so aptly through the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. As spiritual and social advocates Misión Peniel brings together people of faith and compassion to act with farmworkers to achieve fundamental change in their living and working conditions while increasing public awareness of the need for reconciliation and bridge building between sectors. Misión Peniel achieves this mission of change by being a destination for mission outreach of local churches and a learning community for the coastal faith community to communicate regularly with the farmworker community a unifying message that human dignity is not a bargaining chip for change.
In addition to the many churches that faithfully support the mission, we are thankful for our partnerships with:
Volunteer Opportunities - We welcome individuals or groups that would like to spend time at the mission. There are a variety of ways to help but advance notice is necessary if you plan to visit Misión Peniel. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve food, organize donations, come with planned activities for the children, offer services such as haircuts to the farmworkers and for periodic special projects.
Weekdays: We could use help with organizing donations, joining in our scheduled garden activities on Tuesday and Thursdays, assist with meal preparations for our Pan de Vida ministry on Monday mornings and/or assist with delivery of meals on Mondays at 11:30 a.m., assist with donation pick up, arrange for a tour of the mission and a visit to the drive through Farmer's Market.... we would love to see you! You are welcome to come out as an individual or small group of friends. Just let us know you're coming a few days before so that we can confirm that day's activities and needs with you.
